Marketing 101

One major mistake companies make is deploying the wrong marketing tool at the wrong time or deploying the right marketing tool at the wrong time. Knowing what type of marketing tool to use is very important in achieving results. Marketing campaigns should have clearly stated goals and objectives set out before conception of campaign ideas, in retrospect, the main aim of every marketing campaign is to generate sales, convert a potential customer into a  customer, however it is always advisable to narrow your goals with every campaign as they usually vary. The goal could be brand awareness, product launch, product sampling, website traffic generation, lead generation, sales etc. There are two major objectives, brand awareness which promotes your brand and passes information to customers and direct sales which prompts your customers to make a purchase. A well produced video ad engraves your brand in your customers mind while discounts prompt your customer to make a purchase almost immediately.

Companies should have a marketing budget and a marketing plan based; on your companies accessibility, on how competitive your market is and on what prompts you customers to buy. For instance if you run a supermarket located in Lekki, supermarkets are very competitive, there is one on every corner, customers will usually buy at the nearest one provided they have what they need, therefore your primary market is your immediate environment, direct marketing should account for between 70 - 80% of your budget and plan and should be supplemented with digital marketing, campaigns and promotions. If you run a multi location business or an online business then digital marketing should account for more of your marketing strategy.
